Events
"The Singing Library"
(aka "Songs About Books About Friends") Songs & script by Mr. Jennings performed by the 1st & 2nd grades March 12, 2017 Do you like listening to music? Do you enjoy reading books? Do you happily spend time with friends? If your answers were "yes", "yes", and "YES!" then I'm sure you loved (or would have loved) the 1st & 2nd grade musical "The Singing Library". The show featured the children inhabiting characters from such classics as "Frog and Toad Are Friends" and "Amos & Boris", as well as newer gems like "Let's Go For a Drive", "Leon & Bob", "The Other Side", and "Poppleton". It was both an extremely literary and fun-filled event! "The Singing Library II:
Songs About Books About Culture" Songs & script by Mr. Jennings performed by the kindergarten June 3, 2016 A return to the magical P.S.187 Singing Library, where the books you read will sing to you, and explore the culture shelf. The kindergarteners sang the characters into life in songs about storytelling, manners, life lessons, cooking and urban versus rural culture. They celebrated not only cultural diversity, but also that no matter who or where we are, our hearts are all the same. Click below for music videos!
"Happy Trails For Two"
Original partners songs to cowboy traditional by Jill Gallina Script by Mr. Jennings performed by the 1st & 2nd grades March 10th, 2016 Well knock me down and call me tongue-tied! The 1st and 2nd grade musical, “Happy Trails for Two” was as fine as cream gravy! All the city slickers who came out on March 10th heard some good old-fashioned cowboy music along with brand new partner songs. There was some mighty fine 2-part singing and that’s the honest truth. There was also some mighty fine fiddling and piano playing by some really talented 2nd graders! "Tales From Early New York"
Songs & script by Mr. Jennings performed by the 3rd & 4th grades December 10, 2015 What do you get when you mix twenty-one elephants, a political cartoonist, a giant tulip tree, and a defiant patriotic woman with a broom? The answer is the 3rd & 4th grade musical “Tales From Early New York”! This musical featured songs about key events in our city’s history, ranging from the Dutch purchase of Manhattan from the Lenape Indians in 1626 to the building of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883. The 3rd & 4th graders gave a truly historic performance! "All Aboard the Citizenship!"
Kindergarten Musical Tuesday, June 9th The 187 Choir in Concert!
featuring participating 5th through 8th graders with special guests "The Fourth Grade Falsettos" Wednesday May 14, 2015 "Fine Ingredients"
Songs & script by Mr. Jennings performed by the kindergarten June 3, 2014 A musical exploration of healthy food and healthy living. |
"World Explorers: Australia!"
Songs & script by Mr. Jennings performed by the 3rd & 4th grades December 4, 2014 A generous (and fictional) donation from this year's Schoolapalooza proceeds led to a fantastic field trip to the land down under. While overcoming the jet lag from their nineteen hour flight, the children were sung to by the trees in Tasmania old growth forests. Later, they learned about individuality from weird and wondrous platypi (or platypuses if you prefer), rode through the outback with Australia's most famous cowgirl, and swam throughout beautiful coral reefs. And, of course, their trip wouldn't have been complete without an adorable runaway joey! "The American Time Machine"
Script by Mr. Jennings performed by the 1st & 2nd grades March 6, 2014 The 1st and 2nd graders fired up the flux capacitor and went on a wild (and educational!) trip back through time in the musical “The American Time Machine”. Singing songs both peaceful and pugnacious, celebratory and subversive, the children led us on a musical journey through our nation’s history and into a deeper understanding of what it means to be patriotic. It sure was a grand old time! The I.S. 187 Choir
December 19, 2013 The 187 Choir's 5th through 8th graders delivered a fantastic performance to kick off the PTA's monthly meeting. Despite having just begun rehearsing, those two and three part harmonies sounded incredibly polished! The spring concert is really going to be phenomenal! "Larger Than Life"
Songs & script by Mr. Jennings performed by the 3rd & 4th grades December 12, 2013 The supersized 3rd and 4th grade musical, “Larger Than Life”, rattled the rafters of the auditorium on December 12th. The show, based on the tall tales of the American frontier, was as big as Alfred Bulltop Stormalong (36 feet tall!), as strong as John Henry (his steel driving hammer was a powerful as 10,000 hammers!), as strange and kind as Johnny Appleseed (he wore a tin pot for a hat as he walked barefoot through the wilderness planting apple trees!) and as quick-thinking and clever as Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind (she taught a hungry grizzly bear to dance!). The 3rd & 4th graders really got into the spirit of exaggerated storytelling and delivered the greatest children’s musical of all-time! Annual Middle School Choral Festival
National Chorale New York City May 14, 2014 The I.S. Choir journeyed to the NYC Professional Performing Arts High School for the National Chorale's choral festival. For this event, we performed three of our concert selections for an audience of several other middle school choirs, listened to the other choirs' performances, and participated in a "Massed Voices Concert", in which all the participating singers present rehearsed and performed "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin. Following the festival, the 187 Choir gave an impromptu concert on the 42nd Subway platform that continued on the A train and all the way back to the school. The 187 Choir in Concert!
